Caption: Germany's oldest multi-disciplinary theatre has been in use almost continuously since 1861, and withstood damage caused by the Second World War with only three years of reconstruction. The Braunschweig State Orchestra, which forms one of the five divisions, plays around 120 opera performances a year and presents its symphony concerts in the town hall.
